Anila Quayyum Agha’s The Greys in Between is a pendulum-like sculpture emitting brilliant rays of light through the intricate patterns cut from its surface. Drawing inspiration from South Asian art and architecture, Agha utilizes light and shadow to explore themes of duality: being an insider vs. outsider, light and dark, the known and unknown, etc. The piece invites viewers to reflect on the intersections of these contrasts, fostering a deeper understanding of how opposing states coexist and interact. Agha's work confronts global exclusionary politics and acknowledges the contributions of minority and immigrant populations, encouraging inclusivity and dialogue among viewers.
