Sunray Cat is a large public sculpture by artist Billy Joe Miller for the University of Texas, Austin. The piece, fabricated from aluminum and then powder coated, draws on University of Texas’ architecture as well as the New Mexican mountainscapes surrounding the artist’s home in Albuquerque to inform its arch design. The piece was installed in front of a mid-century limestone building on campus with the artist also designing the native plantings and landscaping. Sunray Cat evokes themes of sanctuary and transformation, offering a welcoming and contemplative space for visitors.
